Frustrations boiling over from Raiders fans to new coach

Las Vegas Raiders fans are placing much of the blame for the team’s 1-2 start on the offensive line, and it is not difficult to see why.

The Raiders have given up the second-most sacks in the league with 12 so far across three games, and Ashton Jeanty has not fared much better in the run game. Players at every position along the offensive line have seemingly regressed so far this season, and the depth does not look particularly strong either. It feels weird to see a Pete Carroll-coached team be this badly outmuscled, but that is precisely where the Raiders find themselves right now.

The finger-pointing has already begun before the first month of the season is even over, and many of them are pointing in the same direction.

Raiders fans already want one of the new coaching hires gone after just three games.

With the struggles surrounding the team so far, some fans are already calling upon the Raiders to fire offensive line coach and running game coordinator Brennan Carroll.

Much of the reasoning has boiled down to what the detractors describe as nepotism, with the head coach handing his son the job with no real competition. Sure, the elder Carroll has played a major influence on his son’s coaching career. All of the NFL jobs the younger Carroll has gained have been on teams that his father coached.

However, the hiring of Carroll was not exactly without merit.

Carroll was an assistant offensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks, and the team consistently put up some of the best rushing numbers in the league. This was particularly true in Carroll’s debut season in 2015, when the Seahawks boasted a top-three rushing attack in the NFL. While the Raiders have been a far cry from those heights, it shows that Carroll is at least competent enough to know what he is doing.

It feels unfair to pin the entirety of the blame on Carroll for the offensive line’s early-season woes, but their struggles is making it hard for him to endear himself to Raiders fans.
