Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have a new quarterback behind him on the depth chart for the 2025 season.

The Chiefs signed Gardner Minshew to be their backup quarterback when free agency opened the week of March 10. He agreed to a one-year deal after spending the 2024 season with Aidan O'Connell.

He played in 10 games, finishing with 2,013 yards through the air, nine touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He told the media during his introductory press conference that he knew he wanted to be in Kansas City when he became a free agent.

“From the end of our season when it seemed like I was going to get cut, I knew in my head that this is where I wanted to be," Minshew said, via Jared Sapp of SB Nation's Arrowhead Pride

He'll be a strong fit on a Chiefs team that is trying to win another Super Bowl in 2025.

Before Minshew played with the Raiders, he spent the 2023 season with the Indianapolis Colts. He played in every game, finishing with 3,305 yards through the air, 15 touchdowns, and nine interceptions.

Before his tenure with the Colts, he spent two seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and two with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His best season came as a rookie in 2019 when he racked up 3,271 yards through the air, 21 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

He has played in 59 games since he was selected in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and has compiled 11,950 passing yards, 68 touchdowns, and 34 interceptions.

The Chiefs are a little over a month removed from losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX.
