Geno Smith lets Patrick Mahomes know there's a new sheriff in the AFC West with highlight play at Raiders training camp

This time last year, there was a quarterback battle in training camp for the Las Vegas Raiders. Well, you can call it that if you want, but it wasn't much of a battle.

From everything we were allowed to see and all the reports we received, it wasn't much of a battle, but rather which quarterback made the fewest mistakes, because there were a lot of them. Of course, Gardner Minshew, now the backup for Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, won that battle over Aidan O'Connell. But AOC ended up being the better quarterback.

The Raiders had a massive issue at quarterback last year. The offensive scheme was terrible, and the run game was awful, too, so that certainly didn't help whoever was at quarterback, but there was obviously an issue at the position.

This time around, they don't have to worry about a quarterback battle. It's all Geno Smith, the former Seattle Seahawks QB who played under new head coach Pete Carroll. Smith has some of the best arm talent in the NFL and has already been showing some of that off at training camp.

In fact, he had a play on Tuesday that really showed just how talented he is -- a play that Patrick Mahomes is pretty known for now, but Smith made it look too easy.

Geno Smith throws no-look pass at training camp

The Las Vegas Raiders kicked off their training camp last week at the team's headquarters in Henderson, Nevada. On Tuesday, the pads came on, and we really got to see some of the things we have been seeing already, but at a much higher intensity.

We got to see some physicality and some really good throws. Smith, who has really been working with Dont'e Thornton and Brock Bowers a ton, threw a no-look pass on Tuesday to wide receiver Kyle Phillips.

Now, it wasn't anything crazy, like in a live-action drill with pass rushers coming at him, but it was a no-look throw nonetheless, and those aren't easy to do. We should see a lot of Geno Smith in 2025, doing things that we haven't seen done these last two years.

And, we should see the quarterback responsible for some wins in 2025, something we also haven't seen in a while.
