George Kittle is ready to give Georgia's Mykel Williams his 'welcome to the NFL' moment during training camp

Former Georgia Bulldogs star defender and current San Francisco 49ers rookie Mykel Williams is about to get his first NFL "welcome to the NFL" moment when the pads come on in NFL training camp later this month.

That's because his teammate, and one of the best blocking tight ends in the league, George Kittle, can't wait to go against him throughout camp.

“I get to run outside zone against Mykel Williams. So that’s gonna be really fun," Kittle said via NBC Sports. "Because he was telling me how he thinks it’s disrespectful for tight ends to block him, and I was like 'welcome to the NFL baby, you’re gonna see something different in these practices. I promise you that.'"

George Kittle’s run-blocking game is no joke, and his 84.5 grade from Pro Football Focus is the best among tight ends over the last seven years. Whether he's setting the edge or bulldozing defenders into the dirt, Kittle brings a level of intensity that not only shows up on tape but also goes viral on social media.

Even in pass protection, Kittle is dangerous. In 2023, he gave up just one pressure on 39 pass-blocking snaps, showing he’s just as reliable when keeping the quarterback clean as he is paving lanes for the run game.

Williams is most definitely going to be tested by top competition, but there’s no doubt it’ll make him better when it counts on game day.

The Niners selected Williams with the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Despite playing through an ankle injury in his final season with the Dawgs, Williams managed to rack up 21 tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss, five sacks, 21 pressures, and two forced fumbles through 12 games.

Now, Williams will transfer that grit to the next level as he works on figuring out how to shut down players like Kittle.
