George Kittle and the San Francisco 49ers are back on the field for training camp, preparing for the 2025 NFL season. Last year marked a disappointing setback for the team, which finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs after three straight trips to the NFC Championship Game and a Super Bowl appearance.

Kittle closed out the 2024 season with 78 receptions, 1,106 yards and eight touchdowns.

Meanwhile, his quarterback, Brock Purdy, missed Friday’s practice for what head coach Kyle Shanahan described as “family stuff.” Purdy returned on Sunday and, according to Shanahan, “didn’t miss a beat.

"Yeah, Brock had some family stuff yesterday—all good news," Shanahan said. "... But yeah, Brock was back and didn't miss a beat, and it was a good day off for him."

At the time of Shanahan’s comments, the reason for Purdy’s absence hadn’t been disclosed. But on Monday, Purdy and his wife announced the birth of their first child.

"Millie Joleen Purdy Life just became a whole lot sweeter," Jenna Purdy wrote in a collaborative post with the 2023 Pro Bowler.

Kittle was among the many people who left a message in the comment section. While most offered congratulations to the Purdys on their life-changing moment, Kittle decided to have a little fun.

"Mom and dad!" the two-time first-team All-Pro tight end said.

Kittle and Purdy have built a strong friendship since becoming teammates in 2022. Beyond their quarterback-tight end connection, the two share a unique bond — both played their college football in Iowa, but at rival schools: Purdy at Iowa State and Kittle at the University of Iowa.

As for the relationship between the Purdys, they met during their time at Iowa State. Jenna was also a student-athlete, playing for the volleyball team. The couple got engaged back in July 2023 and tied the knot in Des Moines, Iowa, in March 2024.
