Germaine Pratt’s latest stint on the unemployment line did not last long.
On Wednesday, multiple sources reported that the veteran linebacker signed with the Indianapolis Colts.
The signing comes two days after the Raiders made the decision to release Pratt, ending a mysterious saga that lasted throughout the weekend.
On Friday, Pratt was revealed to have missed the team flight and was ruled out for Sunday’s game, ironically against the Colts. After the game, head coach Pete Carroll did not mince words, stating plainly that he was looking at other players at the position. It was clear that tension had caused a rift between Pratt and the Raiders, and Monday’s decision to release him was a clear indication of it.
Despite the strange circumstances leading to Pratt’s release, he was still highly sought after on the open market, with up to four teams reportedly being interested in signing him.
However, he chose the Colts due to his connections with defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo. The two spent six seasons together as members of the Cincinnati Bengals (2019-24), so they know how the other works.
In a corresponding roster move to Pratt’s release, the Raiders have signed linebacker Jon Rhattigan to the active 53-man roster. Rhattigan was a member of the Seattle Seahawks from 2021-23, which were Carroll’s final years as head coach.
Both sides have made a clean break from one another, and Pratt now gets another opportunity to prove he can still be an effective player at the NFL level.
