The New York Giants fell (2-6) to its NFC East rivals Philadelphia Eagles (6-2) in its Week 8 clash on Sunday by a score of 38-20, but the team also was dealt an injury to star rookie running back Cam Skattebo. The fourth round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft out of Arizona State had burst onto the scene this season, accounting for 410 yards rushing and five touchdowns, and becoming a fan favorite.
Skattebo's injury occurred with 8:09 remaining in the second quarter with the Giants down 14-7. Fellow rookie and Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart fired a pass over the middle to Skattebo, who was being covered by All-Pro linebacker Zach Baun. As the pass got closer to Skattebo, Baun appeared to wrap himself around the back of Skattebo, preventing the rookie running back from catching the pass, but also forcing his body to contort backward.
Skattebo immediately grabbed his helmet as his left foot appeared to be completely turned sideways. It was confirmed on Sunday that he had suffered a dislocated ankle, and on Tuesday the Giants revealed what their plans were for the rookie.
As revealed by team reporter Dan Salomone, Skattebo was placed on the Injured Reserve list, which will sideline him for at least four weeks.
Although Giants fans have to be a bit disappointed, there is optimism with the move that he can return at some point this season.

On Sunday, many assumed the worst for an offense that had already lost Malik Nabers to a torn ACL earlier in the season. With Skattebo out, look for second-year back Tyrone Tracey Jr. to take over as the team's primary ball carrier.
As for the Giants, they will be hosting the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday in a game that will kick at 1:00 p.m. ET and air on CBS.
