The New York Giants have provided a concerning update on running back Cam Skattebo ahead of their Week 9 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Skattebo is listed as doubtful because of a hamstring injury, raising concerns about the team’s backfield depth.
ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter shared the latest update on X, confirming that Skattebo is unlikely to play Sunday.
“Giants are listing RB Cam Skattebo as doubtful for Sunday’s game vs. the Eagles due to his hamstring injury,” Schefter reported.
Skattebo suffered the injury during the Giants’ Week 7 victory over the Houston Texans. He pulled up after completing a career-high 42-yard run in overtime, which helped set up New York’s game-winning touchdown.

Despite receiving a Week 8 bye to recover, the running back has struggled to return to practice. He missed every practice session this week, making his availability against Philadelphia unlikely.
The potential absence creates another problem for head coach John Harbaugh. Backup running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. is already on injured reserve with a hamstring injury of his own.
Devin Singletary is expected to handle the starting responsibilities if Skattebo cannot play. The Giants have also added undrafted rookie Greg Desrosiers to their active roster for additional depth.
Skattebo has been one of New York’s most important offensive players this season. Through seven games, he has recorded 418 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 98 carries.
Skattebo’s physical running style has helped the Giants build a 4-2-1 record. Losing him against a divisional rival would be a significant setback.
The Giants also face a quick turnaround after Sunday’s game. They will meet the Washington Commanders on Thursday Night Football in Week 10.
Harbaugh previously described Skattebo’s condition as day-to-day. However, New York could prioritize his recovery rather than risk aggravating the injury against Philadelphia.
