The New York Giants go against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday after what has been an eventful week for the franchise. Head coach Brian Daboll was fired on Monday after a pretty rough 2-8 season so far.
The Giants will be hoping to improve the record under interim coach Mike Kafka. But doubts remain after their rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart suffered a head injury against the Chicago Bears last week.
Per the latest injury report, Dart will be unavailable against the Packers. However, he is expected to make a swift recovery before New York faces the Detroit Lions next week.
"Jaxson Dart, recovering from a concussion. The hope is he is back next week against the Lions," Mike Garafolo of NFL Network said on Sunday. "It's a concussion, it's not a sprained ankle, so I caution you, but he's progressed pretty well to this point. So the Giants are hopeful they will get him back."
Interim coach Kafka said Dart is “on track” with where he should be in the protocol. The comment followed a Friday practice in which Dart was seen working on the field but did not participate fully.
Kafka and the team framed the update as cautious optimism rather than a firm clearance. He will begin making his case for the head coach position against Green Bay on Sunday.

"The Giants thought highly enough of him to block him for offensive coordinator roles in recent years," Garafolo added. "They think it's an attractive job for a candidate, so they think it's an attractive job for Kafka. I do think previous experience will be valued in this coaching search."
With Dart unavailable, veteran Jameis Winston will start Sunday. Russell Wilson, who replaced Dart briefly in last week’s game, will be listed as the backup.
The Giants also ruled out several other players for Sunday, a list that included offensive lineman Evan Neal and wide receiver Darius Slayton.
New York hosts Green Bay (5-3-1) at 1 p.m. ET Sunday on Fox.
