Everywhere New York Giants assistant general manager Brandon Brown has gone, he’s impressed. From the Indianapolis Colts to the Super Bowl-winning Philadelphia Eagles and then New York, Brown’s reputation has improved with each successive promotion.
It seems the Las Vegas Raiders were impressed with Brown, too.
The front office executive interviewed for Las Vegas’ vacant general manager position ahead of the Divisional Round.
A new report from Jordan Schultz reveals that Brown will receive a second interview with the Raiders.
On Monday, Schultz clarified, the interview will be in-person, rather than virtual. That’s a sign that Las Vegas is legitimately interested. It’s a natural progression for teams to host a variety of virtual interviews before bringing in finalists in a more serious capacity.
The Raiders have openings at general manager and head coach, and it isn’t immediately clear which will get priority. The team could opt to hire an organization-shaping presence like Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and have Brown by the John Lynch to their Kyle Shanahan – a helpful personnel presence who ultimately falls second in command.
They could also hire Brown with the intention of having him assist on the final rounds of the coaching search or insert him into an arranged marriage, presumably with minority owner Tom Brady’s blessing.
Brown has been with the Giants since general manager Joe Schoen took over in 2022, and by all accounts, he’s been a key piece of the front office infrastructure. He’s been wonderful in his limited opportunities with the media, elaborating on how New York attacks its offseasons and giving credit to lower-ranking members of the front office whose work goes unnoticed by the public.
If Las Vegas’ interest is any indicator, New York’s recent struggles don’t reflect poorly on Brown. Losing him would be among the Giants’ biggest departures this offseason.
