Giants' Brian Daboll OK with WR Kadarius Toney missing voluntary minicamp?

The New York Giants used a first-round draft pick last year to select wide receiver Kadarius Toney, and he flashed promise but also endured an injury-filled debut season. Across just 10 games and four starts, he accumulated 39 catches for 420 yards and zero touchdowns.

Since the end of his rookie campaign, the Giants have hired Joe Schoen as their new general manager and Brian Daboll as head coach. One would think Toney would want to impress such individuals by taking part in activities such as voluntary minicamp, but Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com notes the 23-year-old has thus far been absent.

For what it's worth, Daboll didn't seem too bothered about the matter when speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

"This is a voluntary camp. The guys that are here, we’re going to work with," Daboll explained. "The guys that aren’t, they’re going to miss out on some things. It’s voluntary for a reason. That’s the nature of the rules ... I’ve had good talks with K.T., good talks with some of the other guys. I’m encouraged with where we are with our participation, what we’ve been doing. We’re going to keep working in the right direction."

Daboll added about Toney: "When he gets here, he’ll get the playbook. We’ll get him up to speed."

Schoen, meanwhile, also reminded everyone these are "voluntary" workouts.

"Nobody’s asked about the other guys that aren’t here," Schoen said. "Life happens. I’ve had good conversations with Kadarius and we’ve been in contact. At the end of the day, it’s voluntary."
