Giants could trade down from the No. 11 pick of the NFL Draft?

According to Kevin Patra of the official NFL website, New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman has never traded down in any round of a draft.

That could change when this year's player selection process opens on April 29.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport explained on Tuesday that Gettleman and the Giants are "internally considering trading back from the No. 11 pick" of the 2021 NFL Draft to acquire additional assets. Big Blue won only six games last season and has multiple noticeable holes on offense and defense even after a relatively successful free agency period.

Gettleman and company could ultimately hold onto the pick, however, if they feel a top-tier offensive lineman is available to serve as a new protector and blocker for quarterback Daniel Jones at the No. 11 spot. In mock drafts updated on Tuesday, Ryan Wilson and Josh Edwards of CBS Sports predicted the Giants will use their current pick to select Northwestern tackle Rashawn Slater.

"Slater is an excellent athlete who is quick and agile," notes Charlie Campbell of Walter Football. "Given his lack of height and length, he might be a better fit on the inside at guard or center, but his foot quickness, athleticism and agility are that of a tackle. Teams like how tough and intelligent Slater is, and some sources think his best position in the NFL could be center, where they think he could be a Maurkice Pouncey-caliber snapper."
