Giants' Deandre Baker, Seahawks' Quinton Dunbar on Commissioner's Exempt list

When NFL training camps open to all players on Tuesday, New York Giants cornerback and 2019 first-round selection Deandre Baker and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quinton Dunbar will be banned.

On Monday, SNY's Ralph Vacchiano and others reported that both Baker and Dunbar have been placed on the "Commissioner's Exempt list" and cannot participate in any team or league activities. The decision was expected following an alleged May incident that left the players facing felony counts of armed robbery and aggravated assault.

As Vacchiano noted, Baker was cleared to leave Florida for New Jersey and the start of training camp. While neither Baker nor Dunbar is suspended, it's unlikely either will play until their cases are sorted.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell could still elect to suspend either or both players down the road.

The Giants selected Baker with the 30th pick of the 2019 draft and, through Monday, remained hopeful he could evolve into a full-time starter for the organization. Seattle traded with the Washington Football Team for Dunbar in March. Dunbar ended the 2019 campaign on injured reserve due to a hamstring injury.
