Giants Develop Travis Hunter Plan B Draft Plan

If Travis Hunter is taken at the second selection by the Cleveland Browns, the best available player remaining for the New York Giants is Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter.

The problem is the Giants have a solid defensive line and don't really need to draft Carter. He is more of a luxury than a need and you draft for need. There are too many holes on the team to draft the best player available.

Accordingly, the Giants should trade down in the first round and accumulate more assets to draft for need. The Giants need a player like Hunter. If the Browns go with Carter, then the Giants should, by all means, select Hunter who fills two needs and will electrify the fan base.

Hunter allows you to play him at WR2 opposite Malik Nabers and also contribute to a secondary that was victimized time and time again last season.

Carter would be a luxury on a line that already features some very good players. Carter would be a rotational player. The Giants should not settle for a rotational player with that selection.

Perhaps they can work a trade and pick up an extra second round pick and a fourth round pick and get more good players who fill needs as opposed to a great player who would ride the bench on non-passing downs.

They could work a deal with the New Orleans Saints or the Pittsburgh Steeler who need to draft a quarterback in the first round. Perhaps one of those teams wants to go all in on Shedeur Sanders, who would be overdrafted at three. Sometimes you have to reach to get the player you want or covet.

The Giants need a quarterback for the future, but not a three. Perhaps they can trade back in the first round and draft Jaxson Dart later in the round.

If I am general manager Joe Schoen and I am looking at the depth on roster and the needs I have to fill, I am looking to move the pick instead of drafting Carter and try to accumulate more assets.
