The New York Giants were unlucky to fall short in their Week 2 thriller against the Dallas Cowboys, but their star players certainly showed up in the game.
Russell Wilson and the New York Giants offense put on a show on Sunday, with 506 yards of total offense against the Dallas Cowboys defense. They took the lead in the game on a phenomenal touchdown pass from Wilson to Malik Nabers with less than 30 seconds to play, but it wasn’t enough to win.
The New York Giants’ impeccable offensive display was masked by the devastation of losing to the Cowboys.
When Russell Wilson heaved a deep ball to Nabers with 25 seconds left on the clock, the Giants should have had the game wrapped up.
Defensive coordinator Shane Bowen was heavily criticized for his role in the loss, allowing the Cowboys to get far enough down the field to score a game-tying field goal, which sent the matchup into overtime.

They were so locked in. This should’ve been a legendary moment for the both of them.

While the Giants lost, there were plenty of positives to take from the game for the offense. Number one on that list is the ever-growing potential of superstar receiver Malik Nabers.
Nabers caught nine passes in the game, for a total of 167 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He’s such a presence in the offense that defenses have to prioritize covering him, which often leaves other playmakers in the Giants unit open.
That was evident on Sunday when Wan’Dale Robinson caught eight passes of his own for 142 yards and a score.
Malik Nabers now leads the NFL in receiving yards (238), and is also number one in receptions over 20 yards downfield.
Malik Nabers is currently:

1st in rec yards
1st in targets
1st in 20+ yard receptions
2nd in TDs
3rd in 40+ yard receptions
4th in 1st down receptions

The Giants’ superstar is averaging 17 yards per catch so far this season and has only played two games with Russell Wilson. If the Giants’ offense continues to build chemistry, it could be a monster year for the receiver.
Considering other star receivers are currently struggling with difficult circumstances, Nabers could quickly climb the ranks for Offensive Player of the Year.
Ja’Marr Chase will be without Joe Burrow for the majority of the season. Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings are dealing with some growing pains, and Tyreek Hill is unlikely to be as explosive as he has been in recent years in a struggling Miami Dolphins offense.

WR1 and OPOY season very much in the range of possibilities!
While we’re only two weeks into the season, Giants fans and analysts around the league are starting to mention his name for the major award.
Last season, Nabers collected 109 passes for 1,204 yards and seven touchdowns, despite the Giants offense struggling for the majority of the season, and playing three different quarterbacks.
This year, Nabers is more likely to have consistency, and if the Giants are rotating their QBs, it’s only so they can start to integrate rookie Jaxson Dart.
Russell Wilson threw a deep ball late in overtime on Sunday that was picked off by Cowboys defensive back Donovan Wilson. Malik Nabers was in the area, but not close to the spot the football was thrown to.
This week, Nabers was asked about the interception. The reporter said that both Russell Wilson and head coach Brian Daboll attributed it to a miscommunication, and Nabers gave a mature response:
“I will take it as my fault. I should have been in communication with Russ to know what we was trying to do. I was locked in on trying to figure out how the defense was playing me at the time. I wasn’t really looking at the right time for him to give me what he gave me. That’s 100% my fault.”

Nabers seemed to consider what went wrong while answering the question, and quickly came to the conclusion that he felt he could have been better in that moment.
The Giants’ playmaker is becoming one of the biggest stars in the league and is on pace for an incredible 2025 season. His development and maturity will only contribute further to that success.
