The New York Giants haven’t dealt with many injuries through training camp, but they had one with Francis Mauigoa when he went down during joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. It was reported that he had a stinger, which is good news, and the latest update is even better for his status moving forward.
“Francis Mauigoa (stinger) will return to practice this week, per John Harbaugh,” ESPN’s Jordan Raanan wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Maugio was the first-round pick for the Giants during the offseason, and they plan on him being an important part of the offensive line moving forward. It’s good that his injury wasn’t serious, and he’ll be able to get back on the field before their final preseason game.
It’s uncertain if the starters will play in that game, but if they do, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Mauigoa suit up.
Another player the Giants are hoping makes progress toward a full return to the field is Malik Nabers, who continues to rehab from his torn ACL suffered last season. Head coach John Harbaugh had some positive news regarding the wide receiver, as there’s a chance he could participate in contact in next week’s practice.
“Harbaugh said it’s a ‘possibility’ that Malik Nabers will shed the red non-contact jersey this week but it’s not a necessity since the opener is still three weeks away,” Dan Duggan of The Athletic wrote on X.
The Giants are hoping that Nabers will be able to play in Week 1, but if he’s just now getting prepared to take contact, there’s a chance they give it a week or two until he gets back on the field. If he’s not able to be out there for the season opener, the Giants will have to rely on their other receivers to fill the void.
