Giants have reportedly made Kayvon Thibodeaux decision ahead of trade deadline

New York Giants pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux was the subject of numerous trade rumors long before the club fell to 2-6 on the season.

Nevertheless, it appears Thibodeaux will remain with the Giants through the Nov. 4 trade deadline.

What other teams have heard about possible trade for Kayvon Thibodeaux

"Spoke to a few teams that reached out to the Giants on Kayvon Thibodeaux and they’ve been told there’s no interest in trading him, sources say," NFL Media's Mike Garafolo reported on Tuesday afternoon. "Thibodeaux is under contract through next season after the team picked up his fifth-year option and they intend on having him in 2026."

On paper, Thibodeaux became surplus to requirements with the Giants after the club made edge-rusher Abdul Carter the third overall pick of the 2025 draft. Back in March 2024, the Giants signed veteran Brian Burns to a five-year, $141M contract. ESPN stats show that Burns and Myles Garrett of the Cleveland Browns ended Week 8 tied for the league lead in sacks (10) for the season, while Thibodeaux tallied 2.5 sacks over his first eight games of the campaign.

Why Giants may want to hang onto Kayvon Thibodeaux for rest of 2025 season

Stories from the summer indicated the Giants wanted to keep the trio of Thibodeaux, Burns and Carter together for longer than half a season. Around that same time, reporters routinely mentioned that Giants co-owner John Mara could ultimately part ways with head coach Brian Daboll and/or general manager Joe Schoen if the club endured another losing campaign.

Thus, it makes sense that Schoen may not be in a hurry to trade Thibodeaux for a draft asset the executive may not be permitted to spend. That said, Kevin Patra of the NFL's website noted on Tuesday that the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers are among the non-NFC East clubs that could potentially have some interest in Thibodeaux.

"With general manager Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll fighting for their jobs, they won't break up the strength of an already questionable defense," Patra wrote for a different piece. "The calculus in keeping a player like Thibodeaux is also that turnarounds happen quickly in the NFL -- the 6-2 New England Patriots being the latest example in 2025."

It sounds like Thibodeaux will be in the Giants' lineup when they host the San Francisco 49ers (5-3) this coming Sunday. Whether or not the outcome of that game will impact Thibodeaux's short-term playing future shall be seen.
