Giants HC Brian Daboll regrets viral sideline outburst

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll regrets the sideline outburst that made him a viral sensation Sunday afternoon.

"You see it after and you’re like, 'I wish I didn’t do that' sometimes," Daboll admitted while speaking with reporters on Monday, per Paul Schwartz of the New York Post.

Daboll was referencing how cameras caught him flipping out after offensive lineman Jack Anderson committed a false start penalty that prevented the Giants from running an offensive play in a fourth-and-1 situation at the Houston Texans' 36-yard line at the start of the second quarter of New York's 24-16 win.

Back in Week 1, Daboll had his name trending on Twitter after he exchanged unpleasantries with quarterback Daniel Jones following an awful interception Jones threw against the Tennessee Titans:

Daboll indicated Monday he doesn't want such moments to become habitual.

"I wear my emotions on my sleeve," Daboll continued during his comments. "I’ve told Jack that. I talk to my players all the time or my coaches, there’s some things I’d like to help but I can’t help sometimes. Probably how I was raised. I’ll even get that way with myself, I talk to myself, thinking when I make a dumba-- decision or do something that I shouldn’t have done. I don’t think about it, it just happens naturally. We’re in a critical situation in a game, fourth-and-1, we’re gonna go for it. I understand mistakes happen and I got a lot of confidence in Jack, just like I do with all the other players. At that particular time I just — not happy, and whatever I say, I say. And then I think I apologize later."

Daboll added he doesn't enjoy the fact Sunday's situation was caught by cameras for the whole world to see and said there are times he wishes he was "a little more laid back" during games. One thing nobody can question is the job Daboll has done in guiding the Giants to a 7-2 record en route to earning Coach of the Year mentions this fall.

Daboll and the Giants next host the 3-6 Detroit Lions this Sunday.
