Giants Issue 2 Major Announcements At Quarterback

The New York Giants did it right.

Twice.

And that's not even counting the top move in the 2025 NFL Draft as the Giants took Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter with the No. 3 pick.

No, it's about how they unearthed a potential long-term answer at quarterback in Mississippi’s Jaxson Dart. ...

And about how they framed his arrival in the Big Apple with him being a backup QB.

The trade is polarizing to some - especially to those who for some reason loved Shedeur Sanders, who slipped all the way to Round 5 to Cleveland.

But New York knew what is was doing. Twice.

After the pick, the Giants made a major announcement regarding their starter under center.

“Russ will be our starter,” head coach Brian Daboll said.

That's 2 major announcements, really.

The Giants brought in Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston in March for the sole purpose of having Russ starting over a rookie. ... with Winston as instant insurance.

Dart was never going to be the favorite to be under center in Week 1.

And now there is no pressure on him to do so.

"He can come in, sit behind a couple veteran quarterbacks and learn," Daboll said.

Wilson and Winston have over two decades of NFL experience between them, having seen Super Bowls, adversity, and – in Winston’s case – the expectations of being a first-round quarterback. That should be invaluable to Dart, who is viewed as a project by most analysts.

We will suggest this will be a redshirt rookie season for Dart, barring the season going south in a hurry and/or both veteran quarterbacks above him going down in some capacity.

Dart was Daboll’s quarterback of choice here, witht the coach said to be "anti-Shedeur.''

So ...

New York traded Nos. 34 and 99, along with a 2026 third-round pick, for No. 25, where it found its quarterback.

Jaxson Dart will hope to make an impact ...

Someday.
