Giants’ Jaxson Dart suffers a devastating injury moments after making history with a record-breaking performance

Per Dan Salomone, Dart was officially ruled out during the fourth quarter. The Giants' offense lost significant momentum when he left the game, but did score three points on the ensuing drive after Russell Wilson entered.

As he's done numerous times this season, Dart was having an incredible game before his early exit. Heading into the fourth quarter, he had amassed 242 yards through the air while completing 65.5% of his passes.

Dart also produced most of the Giants' rushing yards, totalling 66 yards on six carries with two rushing touchdowns. His two rushing touchdowns set him up to break a record for most consecutive games with a rushing touchdown. This was his fifth straight game with a rushing touchdown, with his streak starting in Week 6 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Over the course of the season, Dart has totaled seven rushing touchdowns, tied with Josh Allen among quarterbacks this season. The added ability to incorporate Dart into the run game has been transformative for the offense since they lost rookie running back Cam Skattebo for the season.

It's currently unclear which play caused Dart to sustain a concussion, but the incident feeds into a controversial narrative about Dart this season. It's speculated the injury occurred on the same play as Dart's fumble, but that hasn't been confirmed.

Dart has been an extremely gritty and competitive player all year, especially as a runner. To a fault, he's been more willing to put his body on the line than quarterbacks typically should be, often avoiding sliding and shying away from contact. Instead, he's barreled into defenders with reckless abandon. While his aggressiveness is inspiring and commendable, it's not safe for a quarterback to play that way.

It's been a recurring talking point and question in press conferences whether Dart needs to be protecting himself more. His concussion today should serve as a warning that Dart needs to be more careful, as his availability is clearly essential to the Giants' offensive success.

This also isn't the first time Dart has been escorted to the medical tent due to a potential concussion. Against the Eagles in Week 6, Giants head coach Brian Daboll sparked a controversy and received a fine for entering the medical tent to check on his quarterback. Thankfully, this time Daboll did not try to interfere with the evaluation process.

Hopefully, Dart has a speedy recovery and returns soon. The Giants absolutely need him on the field if they want to finish the season strong.
