New York Giants pass-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux is in a contract year and has been the subject of trade rumors throughout the first half of 2026. That said, whispers suggesting that the Giants could send him elsewhere this spring or summer have all but disappeared following this year's NFL Draft.
While speaking with reporters on Monday, first-year Giants head coach John Harbaugh sounded like somebody who wants to have Thibodeaux as part of his team's defense this coming fall.
"I give Kayvon a lot of credit because I think he's a premier player in the National Football League," Harbaugh said, per the Giants' website. "I saw him make a play in a boot today. It was just like silky, smooth, fast, just change of direction. He's a great athlete."
A Giants team that has veteran Brian Burns, 2025 first-round draft pick Abdul Carter and 2026 first-round choice Arvell Reese on its roster reportedly wanted a second-round pick in return for Thibodeaux's services earlier this spring. It has since been said that "Harbaugh wants to compete for a playoff spot this season" and that "Thibodeaux has impressed the new staff this offseason." Thus, it appears that Thibodeaux won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
However, Dan Graziano of ESPN noted that the Giants could make Thibodeaux available before this fall's trade deadline if they "aren't contending or believe they should trade from a strength to fortify a weakness." Graziano named the New England Patriots as a possible landing spot for Thibodeaux.
"I think he's handling it so well, with so much maturity," Harbaugh said about how Thibodeaux has dealt with outside noise regarding the 25-year-old's uncertain future. "I don't know if you see every player handle it the way he has. Everybody's gotta admit he's handled this thing really the right way. ...You do it for the team. You do it to win as many games as you can, and you let everything else fall in place the way it's supposed to, and that's what he's planning on doing. Nobody knows what the future holds. But the future holds games that he's going to be playing a lot of plays in, and he's going to play really well."
Harbaugh's latest comments on the subject would lead one to believe he expects Thibodeaux to be with the Giants when they open the season with a home "Sunday Night Football" game versus the rival
Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 13. Thibodeaux's status beyond that contest could remain a to-be-determined situation leading up to the trade deadline.
