Giants land two day-one starters in latest PFF mock draft

The New York Giants are gearing up for the 2023 NFL Draft, heavily scouting prospects at their biggest positions of need. The Giants' consensus top weaknesses entering draft season are at wide receiver, center, and cornerback.

In Pro Football Focus's latest three-round mock draft, New York addressed all three of their top needs, landing two consensus "day-one" starters in the process.

With their first round pick in PFF's mock draft, the Giants selected USC WR Jordan Addison. The Giants have expressed interest in Addison throughout the pre-draft process. Addison will reportedly meet with New York as one of the team's top-30 visits.

The Giants also met with Addison at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine and attended USC's Pro Day to get an additional look at the first-round talent.

Addison cemented himself as a future first-round pick during his 2021 sophomore season at Pitt in which he totaled 100 receptions for 1,593 yards and 17 touchdowns in 14 games.

He then transferred to USC for the 2022 season, logging 59 receptions for 875 yards and eight touchdowns in 11 games for the Trojans.

Mitch Kaiser of PFF describes Addison as being "as NFL-ready as it gets" from the WR position. His versatility and crisp route running make him a perfect fit for the Giants.

In the second round of PFF's mock draft, the Giants address the center position, taking Ohio State's Luke Wypler. With 2022's starting center Jon Feliciano leaving in free agency, the Giants need to find a day-one starter in the 2023 NFL Draft. Wypler, a two-year starter during his time at Ohio State, could be that player.

Wypler was named All-Big Ten Honorable Mention that season before earning Third-Team All-Big Ten honors this past fall. Wypler is described by The Draft Network as a "controlled technician" who "understands angles and features excellent range."

According to PFF, Wypler surrendered only eight pressures in each of his last two collegiate seasons. Wypler is an athletic center with refined technique that would allow him to plug right into the Giants' starting five on day one.

The Giants' third-round selection in this mock draft is less of an instant-impact player and more of a developmental prospect. PFF had New York selecting TCU CB Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson with the 89th overall pick in this year's draft.

Hodges-Tomlinson is an undersized CB prospect, standing in at just 5-foot-8, 178 pounds. His lack of size will force Hodges-Tomlinson to struggle against the run and fail to matchup with bigger cornerbacks.

However, Hodges-Tomlinson's elite athleticism and collegiate production will give teams hope for his potential to develop into an eventual starter.

Tyler Haskins of The Draft Network described Hodges-Tomlinson as "an extremely athletically-gifted player with impressive man coverage skills." He is "a great competitor and athlete," but, Haskins writes, he "would not feel comfortable lining him up against a team’s “X” receiver due to his small frame."

The Giants could still draft Hodges-Tomlinson anyway and develop him as a nickel corner.
