The New York Giants’ season has long been over. Before they lost to the Carolina Panthers in Germany, before they cut quarterback Daniel Jones, before the final game of their 10-game losing streak and a win that pushed them to third in the draft order, New York had sacrificed its playoff aspirations.
MetLife Stadium is not a place of endless hope and optimism. Forged by losing seasons by both of its inhabitants, Giants fans have learned to expect the worst, only to come away impressed by just how bad the worst actually is.
However, owner John Mara strayed from the consensus when he decided to keep head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. The two will attempt to build upon the few positives of their 3-14 campaign to foster a competitive team in 2025.
Former New York offensive lineman Justin Pugh believes in them.
Ahead of a crucial offseason, the Giants legend revealed reasons to be optimistic about the future of New York football.
“You see all these Eagles fans here right now, and the Chiefs fans. They’re spoiled,” Pugh told DAZN. “We’re in the mud right now. We’re coming out of the mud, we’re gonna figure it out. Things didn’t go our way last year. Things haven’t gone our way the last decade. Yeah, we had some boat trip issues. Yeah, we had some o-line issues, we might have traded the best player in the NFL [Odell Beckham Jr.].
“But it stops now. The new horizon is coming. We have Malik Nabers. We have Tyrone Tracy, the offensive line. We have the defense, we have ‘Sexy Dexy’ Lawrence on the d-line getting after it.”

The former Giants lineman (twice over) was more than willing to sell the best part of this team’s future. Of course, that starts with Nabers. In a lost season, Nabers’ meteoric rise was the biggest win of the season. Posting 1,204 yards and seven scores, he established himself as a true No. 1 threat. He had the second-most targets in the NFL – while missing two games.
Joining him in the good graces of fans is Tracy. The two became the third duo in league history to post 1,000 yards from scrimmage (each) as rookies.
Together, they’re the start of New York’s offensive weaponry that will welcome in a new quarterback in 2025. With that aforementioned third pick and rumors swirling about Los Angeles Rams star Matthew Stafford, Pugh’s optimism can only be realized once a franchise quarterback finds his way to the Giants.
From there, it’s a matter of winning in the best city in the world.
“And we play where? In the best city in the world. We are New York City. We are the New York Giants. 100 years of greatness. And it’s now our time.”
