Giants legend reacts to viral Daniel Jones report

NFL Network personality Rich Eisen went viral when he reported on Monday that the New York Giants are "absolutely done" with quarterback Daniel Jones and have "buyer's remorse" regarding the four-year contract that Jones signed last March.

Giants legend and CBS Sports NFL analyst Tiki Barber reacted to Eisen's comments during Monday's edition of the WFAN "Evan and Tiki" program.

"I mean, it makes sense," Barber acknowledged, according to Ryan Chichester of Audacy. "The 'buyer’s remorse' thing kind of does it for you. Do I still believe in Daniel Jones? Yes, if he’s healthy. But again, it’s hard to predict health with a guy who has not been healthy."

Jones missed a total of nine games from 2021-23 because of neck-related injuries and is currently recovering from the torn ACL he suffered on Nov. 5.

"'Absolutely done?' That’s like a definitive statement," Barber continued. "That’s the only issue I have, the definitive statement of being absolutely done."

Barber's final point is valid if only because it's believed the Giants are stuck with Jones' deal through at least Super Bowl LIX and, thus, would start the 26-year-old ahead of a rookie this fall. It reportedly was "the worst-kept secret of the NFL combine" last week that Giants general manager Joe Schoen wants to spend a noteworthy draft pick on a possible Jones replacement.

Big Blue currently possesses the No. 6 selection of the 2024 draft, but Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports is among knowledgeable analysts who think quarterbacks could be taken via four of the draft's first five choices.

Of course, the Giants could spend pick No. 6 on a different type of offensive weapon or a lineman and grab a quarterback later in the draft. For example, Jordan Reid of ESPN predicted that New York will land Oregon Ducks signal-caller Bo Nix in the second round via selection No. 39.

"In this scenario, the Giants missed out on the QBs at the top of the draft, but why not take a chance on a day two option to get some competition for Daniel Jones (who is coming off a torn ACL)?" Reid wrote.
