Giants Make Odell Beckham Jr. Announcement on Tuesday

Odell Beckham Jr. is wearing No. 13 again for the New York Giants.

The team announced the number change Tuesday morning after Beckham made the 53-man roster. He had worn No. 3 through the preseason while fighting for a spot.

Beckham first made the number famous after the Giants drafted him in 2014. He won Offensive Rookie of the Year that season and became one of the league’s most recognizable receivers.

Jalin Hyatt had worn No. 13 for three seasons. The Giants waived him Sunday and signed him to the practice squad Monday, opening the number for Beckham.

Beckham spoke about the possibility Monday, before the official switch.

“I think we all know what that means to me.”

He added that talks would happen.

“There definitely will be some conversations. I’ll just say we’ll see what happens. But like I said, it would be an honor and a privilege to put that back on.”

The 33-year-old receiver returned to the Giants this offseason after missing the 2025 season. He last played for the franchise in 2018.

Beckham later spent time with the Cleveland Browns, won a Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams, and played for the Baltimore Ravens and Miami Dolphins. He wore No. 13 in Cleveland and switched to No. 3 with the Rams.

Making the roster, he said, “means everything to me.”

The Giants open the regular season Sept. 13 at home against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday Night Football. That date is the same number Beckham will wear.

His original run in New York produced four 1,000-yard seasons and a string of highlight-reel catches. The one-handed grab against the Cowboys in 2014 remains one of the most replayed plays in franchise history.

Jersey sales followed. After that rookie year, Beckham’s No. 13 Giants jersey ranked among the top sellers league-wide for a non-quarterback.

Hyatt never approached those numbers. In three seasons wearing 13 he recorded 36 catches for 470 yards and no touchdowns.

Beckham did not publicly demand the number while his roster spot remained uncertain. Once he made the cut, the switch became straightforward.

Head coach John Harbaugh, who coached Beckham in Baltimore in 2023, is now in his first season with the Giants. The reunion added another layer to Beckham’s return.

Beckham has spoken about unfinished business in New York and a chance to rewrite part of his story with the team that drafted him.

For Giants fans who watched him burst onto the scene more than a decade ago, the number on the jersey will look familiar again this fall.
