Giants name starting QB for Week 17

The Tommy DeVito era appears to have come to an end for the New York Giants.

DeVito was benched during New York’s 33-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night. Brian Daboll told reporters after the game that he felt the Giants needed a “spark,” so the coach turned the offense over to Tyrod Taylor in the third quarter.

On Wednesday, Daboll announced that Taylor will start against the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17.

“I thought Ty did some good things in the second half against Philly, so he earned the right to start this game. Getting ready for the Rams. Really have nothing else to add on it,” Daboll said.

DeVito went 9-of-16 for 55 yards before being benched at halftime against the Eagles. The Giants had managed just three points before Daboll decided to make a change. Taylor finished 7-of-16 for 133 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

Taylor entered the season as the primary backup behind Daniel Jones. He started three games when Jones was injured but suffered an injury of his own in Week 8, which opened the door for DeVito.

DeVito, an undrafted rookie out of Illinois, became a household name almost immediately after making his NFL debut. He has even filed for a couple of trademarks, but it is possible we will not see him on the field again in 2023.
