After going just 3-14 and finishing in last place in the NFC East, the New York Giants are undoubtedly in the market for a new quarterback.
One name that'd been attached to the team was Matthew Stafford, who was given permission by the Los Angeles Rams to seek a trade partner. However, on Friday, it was reported that he was set to finalize a new deal with the Rams.
With him now out, the Giants' options have become more limited, so that's why in a mock draft done by Kyle Stackpole of CBS Sports, he predicts New York will trade up from No. 3 to No. 1 in order to select Miami quarterback Cam Ward.
"With general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll badly needing to produce a successful season, they can't afford to miss," he wrote. "That's why they leave nothing to chance, moving up two spots and getting the quarterback they want, which in this case is Cam Ward."
Ward is coming off an impressive 2024 season with the Hurricanes, completing 305-of-454 passes for 4,313 yards, 39 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a 172.2 passing efficiency rating.
This scenario also sets Ward up to be the Giant's Week 1 starter because, as of now, they have no other quarterbacks under contract for the 2025 season after letting Drew Lock, Tommy DeVito, and Tim Boyle all walk in free agency.
