New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson took a break from football to celebrate a special family moment at the 2025 US Open, sharing a heartfelt message for Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic after meeting him up close.
Wilson, his wife Ciara and their son Future were spotted courtside during the tournament and later posted photos and videos of their interaction with Djokovic.
Wilson posted on Instagram showing Djokovic greeting his family. In one clip, the 24-time Grand Slam champion shook hands with young Future and signed a large tennis ball, drawing smiles from Wilson and Ciara.
Another moment captured Wilson giving Djokovic a hug before the Serbian star also greeted Ciara.
“NOVAK!!! Thanks for being the BEST! We LOVED watching you train US Open up close! Future will remember this moment forever! Best Times Together!” the Giants quarterback added a personal caption to the post.
Ciara also joined the celebration in the comments, writing, “Novak = Unreal! Legendary player and Legendary person. We are truly grateful .”
While Wilson’s post centered on the family’s encounter, Djokovic himself is in the middle of another historic run at the 2025 US Open. The 38-year-old advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets, becoming the oldest player to reach all four Grand Slam quarterfinals in a single season.
The win also marked Djokovic’s 64th career Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance, extending his all-time record. He remains on track for a record 25th major singles title and his fifth US Open crown.
Despite the milestone, Djokovic admitted that the tournament schedule came with personal sacrifices. The Serbian noted that his daughter’s birthday fell on the same day as his Round of 16 match.
For Wilson, the US Open stop came during an important chapter in his NFL career. The 10-time Pro Bowler joined the Giants on a one-year deal this offseason, serving as a veteran presence while rookie Jaxson Dart develops.
The Giants view Wilson as a bridge quarterback who can provide stability and leadership after several difficult seasons.
In the world of professional sports, where schedules are packed and pressures are high, these rare personal encounters often stand out most.
