Fans are wondering what the New York Giants will do with the No. 3 overall pick. A crucial selection in a key moment, the Giants must find a franchise player at this spot. A week out from the draft, it does not appear they have a clear vision on what they want.
Some believe they should take one of the many elite skilled position or defensive players available. Then there is the camp hoping for the next franchise quarterback at No. 3.
With Cam Ward widely projected to go No. 1 overall to the Tennessee Titans, Sanders will likely be the next quarterback picked. As of Tuesday, the Giants are still mulling that decision.
The team hosted Sanders for an eleventh hour private workout, getting one final evaluation of him in ahead of the NFL Draft. To this point, there is still no indication of which way the organization leans.
In the meantime, the potential future face of the franchise got an unsettling comparison with regard to his draft buzz. Peter Schrager likened him to former troubled NFL quarterback Johnny Manziel in terms of his coverage and profile.
"Shedeur Sanders is the most interesting draft prospect since Johnny Manziel," he said. "Yes, I'm going back that far, in which this guy could go as high as No. 2 overall, or slip to the end of the first round or early second. Yet, we will be watching every last second until he's selected. I don't remember a draft where a player that's not the blue-chip, first guy is the one we're talking about every single day."
Schrager did not include Manziel's off-field troubles in the conversation as the two are clear opposites in that area. And to Sanders' credit, there is more of a viable argument for his being selected higher on the draft board than there was for Manziel.
But Sanders' celebrity has undeniably helped his case and raised his profile. He would be a deserving first-round pick though it seems that could happy literally anywhere from No. 1 to No. 32.
The opinions on him vary so vastly from team to team. Even the Giants seem unable to get a read on him, having brought him in for this final workout.
Sanders' selection will be one of the most pressing questions come draft night. Wherever he ends up though, he will be positioned much better for success than Manziel was.
