Giants QB Tommy DeVito addresses his father's stance on team

New York Giants undrafted rookie quarterback Tommy DeVito seems less-than-surprised his father went viral during this past Sunday's 49-17 blowout loss at the Dallas Cowboys.

"I come from his bloodline and his flesh and blood," DeVito said about his dad while speaking with reporters on Wednesday, per the Giants' website. "I understand frustration. I mean, I don't know. Everybody I'm assuming was frustrated when you don't convert it. If you would've converted it, it would've been no issues with anybody, regardless of if that's my father or anybody else in the stands. I know how it goes – but that's just part of the game."

As noted by Matt Ehalt of the New York Post, DeVito’s father appeared to publicly question a play call from his seat inside the stadium after Giants star running back Saquon Barkley was stuffed on a fourth-and-2 situation at the Dallas four-yard line in the second quarter of what became a laugher. That wasn't the first time this past weekend that DeVito’s family made sports headlines, as the native of Cedar Grove, New Jersey, revealed prior to Sunday's defeat – which dropped the Giants to 2-8 on the season – that he still lives at home with his parents.

"I've seen a lot of things and a lot of people have posted a whole bunch of stuff about it, but I mean it is what it is at this point," DeVito said Wednesday regarding multiple outlets picking up the story about where he lives as a first-year NFL quarterback. "I'm just saving money."

DeVito is playing this fall because starter Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending torn ACL on Nov. 5, when primary backup Tyrod Taylor was already on injured reserve due to a rib injury. Thus far, DeVito has completed 31-of-54 passes for 260 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions. He's also rushed for 70 yards and a score on 15 attempts.

As of Wednesday evening, oddschecker listed the Giants as 8.5-point underdogs for this Sunday's game at the 4-6 Washington Commanders. DeVito will look to create highlights for positive reasons as he works to extend his career beyond what's developed into a disastrous season for Big Blue.
