Giants release 8 players, including Isaiah Hodgins

The New York Giants made several cuts on Saturday, as the coaching staff must bring the roster size down to 53 players before the start of the new season. However, one notable release was wideout Isaiah Hodgins, as the club is going in a different direction with the wide receiver room.

Hodgins was cut alongside seven other players, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. After over three years with the Giants, Hodgins’ time in New York has ended.

“Giants released: CB Ugo Amadi, RB Damon Bankston, TE Josiah Deguara, DL Leki Fotu, WR Isaiah Hodgins, OL Brenden Jaimes, LB Anfernee Orji, [and] WR Kobe Prentice,” Schefter reported.

Hodgins first entered the league as a sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft with the Buffalo Bills. He didn’t make his NFL debut, however, until the 2021-22 campaign, appearing in just one game with the Bills. He eventually joined the Giants in the middle of the 2022-23 season, where he remained until being cut on Saturday.

In his 35 total games in New York, Isaiah Hodgins hauled in 66 receptions for 708 yards, and eight touchdowns. He mainly served as a rotational option in the Giants’ wide receiver room.

With Hodgins out of the picture, head coach John Harbaugh is seemingly narrowing down his roster. Malik Nabers, Darius Slayton, and Darnell Mooney are expected to work as the top three wide receivers. Odell Beckham Jr. is in the mix for a final spot on the roster, and rookie Malachi Fields is expected to have some kind of role with the club, too.
