Giants Release Franchise Legend Odell Beckham Jr.

The Odell Beckham Jr. reunion with the New York Giants is reportedly over.

The Giants released the franchise icon Tuesday, according to NFL Network insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport.

Beckham, 33, signed a one-year, nonguaranteed contract with the Giants on June 1 after missing the entire 2025 season. He made the team out of training camp as one of the team’s five wide receivers.

But Beckham has hardly been a part of the Giants offense. He does not have a catch this season and has only been targeted once through three games.

There was excitement about Beckham making the roster. He was greeted with a huge ovation in his initial preseason game and during the Giants’ 28-20 win in their home opener against Dallas in Week 1.

But the Giants receivers have struggled, especially with quarterback Jaxson Dart now out for the season with a torn meniscus and MCL. Malik Nabers, Malachi Fields and Darnell Mooney have not been threats, combining for just 14 receptions over the past two games.

Beckham’s roster spot was always tenuous because he does not play special teams. So with the Giants needing a roster spot after acquiring quarterback J.J. McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings on Monday, Beckham’s time with the team that drafted him in 2014 is over.

Odell Beckham Jr.’s Career May Be Over

Beckham’s career is now at a crossroads. He chose the Giants in free agency specifically to reunite with the franchise under coach John Harbaugh.

Beckham spoke all offseason about wanting to bring a Lombardi Trophy to the Giants — about that being the final thing he had to do in his career.

It’s hard to envision another fit for Beckham, assuming he wants to keep playing. One of his former teams, the Los Angeles Rams, have scuffled through their 1-2 start mainly without All-Pro receiver Puka Nacua.

But even without Nacua, the Rams don’t seem to need offensive weapons. Davante Adams torched the Giants (8 catches, 195 yards, two touchdowns) in LA’s 28-6 win in Week 2, and second-year wideout Konata Mumpfield is coming off a four-catch, 93-yard outing against the Broncos.

If that’s it for Beckham, it’s fair to wonder what might have been, especially in a Giants uniform. He still ranks second in Giants history in receiving yards (5,476) and is fourth in catches (390). His No. 13 may end up in the Ring of Honor at some point in the not-so-distant future.
