Giants reportedly livid Eagles traded up ahead of them to select DeVonta Smith

The New York Giants were all-in on former Alabama wide receiver DeVonta Smith. That was until their NFC East rival, the Philadelphia Eagles, traded up in the draft to select him. 

The Eagles were initially one spot behind the Giants heading into the 2021 draft before trading up to select Smith with the 10th pick. 

One SEC defensive coordinator said the Giants wanted Smith badly, according to ESPN's Adam Rittenberg. 

"The Giants wanted DeVonta bad," the defensive coordinator told Rittenberg. "They were pretty livid when Philly moved in front of them."

When Big Blue couldn't get Smith with the 11th pick, the Giants traded out of the spot and selected Kadarius Toney 20th overall. The Chicago Bears made Justin Fields the No. 11 pick. 

Now that the Giants have missed out on Smith, they'll have to face him twice per year for the foreseeable future. 

Luckily for Big Blue, Kenny Golladay signed with the Giants this offseason and is expected to be Daniel Jones' top target for years to come.
