Calvin Johnson is a legend who transcends the fan circles for the team he played for. The Detroit Lions' former WR1, affectionately known as Megatron, was one of the scariest wide receivers to line up against as a defender in his prime.
While the Lions teams he was a part of didn't make nearly as much noise as the current iteration of the squad, he's still known as one of the best to ever suit up for the Lions in its history.
And, again, everyone knows him. Almost everyone, at least.
New York Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo was recently on Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown's podcast to discuss his journey to the NFL and to chop it up in general with the NFL duo and brothers. However, Skattebo was then asked to participate in a game where he had to identify NFL legends on the spot. Easy, right?
Skattebo proceeded to show he knows...none of the players you'd expect him to - including Johnson, who Skattebo said he knew the face of but couldn't put a name to.
"He's one of the best receivers to ever play the game of football. He played for the Lions," said St. Brown in his effort to job Skattebo's memory.
"It's Megatron? Is it?," said Skattebo in absolute surprise. He then proceeded to struggle to name other NFL household names, like Brett Favre, Golden Tate, Kam Chancellor, and others.
No disrespect to Skattebo who is only 23 years old, but even with his youth, he should know who at least Johnson is on this list. Again, he's one of the most recognizable wide receivers in the game and, as St. Brown said, one of the best to ever play the game in general. It's just funny watching a rookie who's clearly not of the age where he'd be able to ID who we'd consider to be legends.
The running back has a bright future ahead of him with the Giants, especially after he shined during Arizona State University's postseason run with him carrying a bulk of their offense. The hard nosed running back will likely be a pivotal piece to the Giants' offense, a team the Lions host on November 23. Maybe someone can point out Johnson's name on the Ring of Honor at Ford Field to Skattebo.
