Following a dismal start to the season, the New York Giants finally got their money's worth with Russell Wilson in Week 2.
The former Super Bowl champion turned back the clock with a vintage performance, completing 30-of-41 passes for 450 yards, three touchdowns and one interception while also rushing three times for 23 yards. This came on the heels of fans and the media asking for rookie Jaxson Dart to take his spot. So, even though the Giants lost the game, Wilson still felt that he had made a statement.
"I embraced the noise," Wilson said. "I don’t run from it. And we have to keep answering the call."
Wilson also gushed about his team's effort, even though it wasn't enough to get through the finish line.
"Today, we didn’t do enough to win," Wilson said. "That’s all that matters, is us as a team, us finding a way to win that game. We believe in the guys in this room. Defense battling. Offense battling, special teams. They laid it all on the line. You can’t ask for any more effort and love, passion and energy, and work than we just gave."
The Giants were pretty close to pulling off the upset, with Wilson finding Malik Nabers for a 48-yard touchdown with 25 seconds left. Then, Cowboys kicker Brandon Aubrey converted a 64-yard field goal to force overtime. Wilson then would have the Giants in a position to win, but he was intercepted by Donovan Wilson on another deep-ball attempt. The Cowboys had just over two minutes left to set up a game-winning field goal and nailed it.
The Giants are now 0-2 after two weeks, and while they claimed they didn't have a sense of urgency to make any change at quarterback, we've seen how quickly things can change in this business.
