Giants' Sam Beal pleads guilty to two gun-related charges in Ohio

Once again, New York Giants cornerback Sam Beal has generated headlines for something that has nothing to do with his production on a football field.

Zack Rosenblatt of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com reported Friday that Beal pleaded guilty to a pair of gun-related charges on June 4 following an arrest near Cleveland, Ohio, that occurred on June 2, 2020. Per Rosenblatt, Beal was allowed to enter a pretrial diversion program and was ultimately placed on two years of probation and ordered to pay court costs and court-appointed attorney fees.

Police pulled Beal over for a traffic violation and later charged him with carrying a concealed weapon, improperly handling a firearm in a vehicle and also possession of marijuana. His arrest was not previously reported before Friday, and the Giants told NJ Advance Media they've "been aware" of the matter and had no comment.

The Giants spent a third-round selection in the 2018 Supplemental Draft on Beal, but a shoulder injury he suffered early in training camp kept him out for what should've been his rookie season. He played in only six games the following year and then opted out of the 2020 campaign due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Rosenblatt wrote the Giants would save more than $851,000 against the salary cap by cutting the 24-year-old who has two years remaining on his deal.
