The New York Giants now have four quarterbacks on their roster, one of which is Russell Wilson who they signed to a one-year, $10.5 million deal.
But was it worth it?
In a recent article by Yardbarker's Seth Trachtman, he outlines one move so far this offseason that he thinks every team maybe should not have made. For the Giants, he thinks they should have not settled for a quarterback well out of his prime like Wilson.
"The Giants offseason screams desperation after ownership put the front office and coaching staff on notice following the 2024 season," Trachtman wrote. "The team is now caught in between at quarterback after signing Wilson and Jameis Winston, and then also drafting Jaxson Dart in the first round. While the quarterback situation has improved over the last year, it's hard to see how the team will bounce back to be competitive immediately."
While Wilson's deal is for one year and is worth $10.5 million, that is not taking incentives into account. The veteran quarterback's deal could be worth up to $21 million with those, which is more than most would be willing to pay for Wilson at this point in his career.
With the drafting of Dart, most think that the Giants should just have started him and not bothered with Wilson. This Giants team could very well not be competitive this season, so developing your future franchise quarterback should be their top priority.
All of this is not to say that there is not a universe that Wilson leads the Giants to a surprising season, because he very well could. But the chances are not high, which means the Giants might have been better off sticking with the rookie.
