New York Giants rookie pass rusher Abdul Carter is off to an unreal start to the 2025 NFL season. He was a key piece in the Giants' Week 4 defensive victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
After his dominant game, Carter received recognition from Pro Football Focus as the best rookie of Week 4 as a part of their PFF Team of the Week.
The Giants' 2025 third overall pick has already lived up to expectations just four games into his career in New York. While Carter's overall stats aren't historic, his snap-by-snap dominance when he's on the field is jaw-dropping.

Through his first four games, Carter has only nine tackles and 0.5 sacks. However, his impact is evident in his 15.2% pressure rate and a whopping 19 quarterback pressures per NFL Pro. Carter's lack of sacks is made up for by the turnovers and sacks he's set up for his teammates.
According to Pro Football Focus, Carter finished Sunday's game against the Chargers with a pass rush grade of 92.1. He had eight total pressures, including five quarterback hits, in the game. Additionally, he had a quarterback pressure rate of 25.0%, an average time to pressure of 1.91 seconds, and a pass rush win rate of 18.8%.
One aspect of Carter's play that stands out is his nuanced pass-rush moves and freaky athleticism. Carter has already utilized a surprisingly deep pass rush move set in four games, winning with everything from a club move to a spin. He's also juked and exploded past blockers to get free lanes to the quarterback.
While Carter hasn't registered a solo sack in 2025, it's only a matter of time before he does. Offensive lines are conflicted over whether they should focus on blocking him, Brian Burns, Kayvon Thibodeaux, or Dexter Lawrence.
Additionally, the list of quarterbacks that Carter has faced is ridiculous for a rookie. To have dealt with Jayden Daniels, Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes, and Justin Herbert to start a career is an unreal challenge. All four quarterbacks are known for their pocket awareness, ability to evade pressure, and improvisational skills. To corral any of those four QBs is a difficult task.
The entire defensive line was unstoppable in the win and has created a source of optimism for Giants fans. As rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart gradually improves, they'll likely need to continue to lean on their defense to earn wins. Sunday's game created a repeatable formula for winning games through grinding down opponents defensively.
