The New York Giants have had a tough 2025 NFL season, and the trend continued with a double blow in Week 12.
New York's 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions happened in heartbreaking fashion. The Giants didn't trail until the first snap of overtime, when Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs scored a 69-yard rushing touchdown that proved to be the game-winner.
Gibbs finished the game with 15 carries for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He also connected with quarterback Jared Goff on 11 catches for 45 yards and another score.
It was enough to hold off a 366-yard, two-touchdown performance from Giants quarterback Jameis Winston, who started in place of Jaxson Dart as the rookie remained in concussion protocol.
New York's record dropped to 2-10 as a result, which is where the second loss comes in.
With five games remaining in their season, the Giants became the first team to officially be eliminated from playoff contention. NFL on CBS shared the season-ending news on X.

The Giants will miss the playoffs for the third straight season.
The writing was on the wall in New York by the time the Giants fired head coach Brian Daboll on Nov. 10 and replaced him with interim head coach Mike Kafka.
Some might argue that hope was lost earlier in the year, given the rash of injuries to star players like wide receiver Malik Nabers, running back Cam Skattebo and Dart.
With their playoff hopes extinguished, New York's next game is on "Monday Night Football" in Week 13 against the New England Patriots, who stand 10-2 after collecting their ninth straight victory on Sunday.
