Giants To Sign DT Dean Lowry

Dean Lowry seemed to be joining the Giants in early September. No deal was formally signed at that point, but the veteran defensive tackle is indeed heading to New York now.

Lowry has lined up a practice squad deal, Dan Duggan of The Athletic reports. After a lengthy stretch to open the season as a free agent, he could make his 2026 debut relatively soon as a result. Lowry spent last season with the Steelers, operating as a depth presence.

Pittsburgh moved on from a number of veterans during roster cuts. Lowry was among them, but no offers emerged aside from his expected Giants agreement prior to the start of the campaign. Adding depth along the defensive interior was a priority for New York after Dexter Lawrence was traded away in the spring. Lowry, 32, will offer plenty of experience as a veteran of 132 appearances and 85 starts.

The former Packers starter spent his first seven seasons in Green Bay. That was followed by a single campaign in Minnesota which was limited to nine games. Lowry made 12 appearances as a Steeler in 2025, but he was released midway through the two-year free agent deal he signed with Pittsburgh. A low-cost arrangement will be in store on his latest team.

The Giants are atop the NFC East with a 4-2-1 record. A number of key injuries have led to questions about New York’s outlook over the remainder of the year, but the team currently ranks seventh in total defense. Improvement against the run – with the Giants allowing an average of 128 yards per game on the ground – will be a goal moving forward. Lowry’s addition could help in that regard depending on how large of a role he handles.
