Giants Trade Idea On Kayvon Thibodeaux Needs Major Payoff
John Jones-Imagn Images

It's now an open secret.

Among the NFL's name players who may be traded in the coming days - in conjuction with the Thursday start of the NFL Draft - is New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux.

Thibodeaux and his fifth-year option issue is valid, and cause for pause.

But the rumors that would have New York essentially give away Thibodeaux in a lopsided deal?

The Giants need to do better than that.

One rumor, for instance, would see Thibodeaux traded for a pick in the third round.

That's lopsided.

Just because New York drafts Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter with pick No. 3, as seems likely, doesn't mean Thibodeaux's talent or value shrinks.

The trade deadline isn't this week. It's in November.

There is no such thing as having too many pass rushers. Giving up on the idea of "making a strength stronger'' is a losing concept that would expose the Giants front office as a bunch that is playing checkers when chess is required.

Dumping Kayvon because of a perceived surplus in pass-rushers? What's wrong with employing Carter and Brian Burns and Kayvon? Teams don't need three elite pass-rushers? Since when?

And doing it for a relatively insignificant draft pick?

And panicking over the money?

And not recognizing that a trade can always happen later?

Oh, and not recognizing that fifth-year option or not, Kayvon figures to help the Giants win games in 2025?

None of that represents New York’s best interest.

And none of that is a secret, either.
