The New York Giants have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL throughout the first half of the season, especially after a season-ending injury to quarterback Jaxson Dart. Heading into a Week 9 matchup with the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants are 4-2-1 and in first place in the NFC East.
However, the Giants’ rushing attack has been inconsistent, and their backfield has become increasingly thin. Tyrone Tracy is already on injured reserve and is not eligible to return until Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers. Now, with an important divisional matchup approaching, Cam Skattebo is listed as doubtful with a hamstring injury.
Skattebo did not practice this week after injuring his hamstring on his final carry of Week 7’s overtime win against the Houston Texans. That final carry went for 42 yards, setting up Devin Singletary’s game-winning score. Skattebo finished that game with 124 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Through seven games this season, Skattebo has carried the ball 98 times for 418 yards and two touchdowns, while also adding 76 yards through the air. With Tracy already sidelined and Skattebo unlikely to play, the Giants may need to look outside the current roster for additional help before the trade deadline on Tuesday.
Reports suggest that New York’s search for help at running back may have already included a call to the Baltimore Ravens.
Adam Schefter reported that the Ravens are not expected to trade Derrick Henry before the deadline. However, the ESPN report added that the Giants did inquire about running back Justice Hill.

The report does not indicate that trade talks have gone beyond that initial inquiry, but it does suggest that New York has already explored outside options.
Hill would provide an efficient option for the Giants. In a limited role behind Derrick Henry this season, Hill has carried the ball 33 times for 240 yards and a touchdown, averaging 7.3 yards per carry. He has also added 20 receptions for 111 yards.
If New York were to make a move, Hill could provide an experienced option while the team waits for the rest of its backfield to recover.
