Giants' unpredictable quarterback situation takes another surprising turn

Another week, another starting quarterback for the New York Giants. Since benching and waiving Daniel Jones, the team has gone back and forth with Drew Lock and Tommy DeVito — mostly because of injuries, but also because everyone has been bad.

On Sunday, against the Atlanta Falcons, Drew Lock will be the starter once again, head coach Brian Daboll announced on Wednesday. He has handled heel and left elbow injuries. DeVito, in the concussion protocol, has a shot at being the backup.

This will be Lock's third start, after he also was QB1 against the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints. Tommy DeVito started against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers — the first game after Jones' release — and last week against the Baltimore Ravens.

However, DeVito got hurt in both games. As Lock was also hurt last week, the Giants were forced to play Tim Boyle for most of the game.

Now, though, Drew Lock is healthy enough and will play. This season, the former second-round pick has completed just 51.1% of his passes, with no passing touchdowns and two interceptions, a 54.6 passer rating.

DeVito has been a better passer, albeit with a smaller sample size. He's completed 70.5% of his passes, no TDs and no INTs, and an 85.1 passer rating.

The Giants are officially eliminated from contention with a 2-12 record. They have lost nine consecutive games, including the last four with Lock and DeVito at quarterback. Through the rest of this regular season, the Giants have to play at the Atlanta Falcons, versus the Indianapolis Colts, and at the Philadelphia Eagles. Right now, the team is projected to have the second overall pick in the draft, only after the Las Vegas Raiders.
