Giants Waive 2 Players as Training Camp Draws Near

The C.J. Ravenell era with the New York Giants only lasted about three weeks.

Ravenell, whom was claimed off waivers from the Tennessee Titans, was one of two Giants waived Saturday mere days before they opened camp.

Cam Jones, a linebacker who the Giants signed in March, was also among those released. Each player was playing on a one-year contract.

The Giants roster now sits at 89 players ahead of the first practice of training camp Wednesday at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

The Giants Waived D-lineman CJ Ravenell

The Giants claimed Ravenell, the 6-foot-5, 300-pound defensive lineman from Missouri Western, after they released defensive back Rico Payton on July 7.

Ravenell, who was on Baltimore's practice squad under Harbaugh in 2024 before playing for the Titans last season, had been released from Tennessee with an injury designation July 6.

But he spent just three weeks in the Giants facility before he was let go.

A 26-year-old undrafted free agent, Ravenell had six tackles, and one solo tackle and one forced fumble in 14 games with the Titans.

Linebacker Cam Jones Was Also Waived by the Giants

Jones signed a one-year, $1 million contract with the Giants in free agency. Jones reportedly injured his ankle while moving boxes into his new home, which caused him to miss minicamp.

He spent 2025 with the New York Jets after reaching the Super Bowl in consecutive seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jones played 10 games with the Jets and had five tackles but missed seven games after landing on injured reserve with a hip injury sustained in their loss to the Denver Broncos last year.

He had five tackles, and one solo tackle last season for New York. The Jets claimed Jones off waivers after he was released by the Chiefs during final training-camp cuts last season.

Jones, an undrafted free agent who signed with the Chiefs out of training camp in 2023, was primarily used on special teams for Andy Reid's squad. He played more than 60% of special-teams snaps in each of his three seasons.

Jones had 17 tackles and 14 solo tackles in 17 games and helped Kansas City to win the Super Bowl in 2023. He had 19 tackles and 12 solo tackles for the Chiefs, who lost Super Bowl LIX to the Philadelphia Eagles.
