Heading into Valentine's Day weekend, the New York Giants cut ties with two players who didn't make a single appearance with the team during the 2020 season.
New York announced on Friday that the club has waived wide receiver Da'Mari Scott and defensive back Shakial Taylor. Both Scott and Taylor voluntarily opted out of this past campaign due to COVID-19 concerns, and Taylor never played a snap with Big Blue.
The Giants claimed Scott off waivers in July 2019 after he was released by the Buffalo Bills. While he tallied two starts and made five appearances during his single active season with the organization, he recorded only a pair of catches for a paltry 22 yards.
Taylor entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signed by the Indianapolis Colts in 2019 and was claimed off waivers from the Denver Broncos last summer. As Charean Williams noted for Pro Football Talk, the Giants wished to waive Taylor ahead of the regular season but instead reinstated him to the roster and then placed him on the reserve/opt-out list.
According to ESPN's Jordan Raanan, the Giants could soon part ways with 2018 Supplemental Draft third-round pick Sam Beal.
Stunned if he’s back. Hasn’t done much to impress on the field and behind the scenes. https://t.co/QsXkpLZ2fB
