Gisele Bündchen reportedly 'wasn't thrilled' Tom Brady returned to Buccaneers

A bombshell report from last week claimed that Gisele Bündchen, the wife of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady, was upset over her husband's decision to end a short-lived winter retirement to return to the team for at least one more NFL season.

There's an update on the situation as Brady and his teammates prepare to open the upcoming campaign at the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night.

According to Jason Duaine Hahn and Steve Helling of People, Bündchen is, in fact, displeased that Brady didn't commit to retirement following the 2021 season.

"There's a lot of tension. She was so happy when he announced his retirement, and she wasn't thrilled at all when he went back on that," an insider close to Brady explained to People about the marriage. "They're hitting a rough patch. But I know they're trying, or at least he's trying, to figure it out and make it work. He wants to get through this and for things to get better."

Brady took an 11-day break away from the Buccaneers during the preseason in August for unspecified "personal reasons," and Emily Smith and Sara Nathan of Page Six then reported ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend that Bündchen "left their family compound in Tampa, Fla., for Costa Rica following a series of heated arguments over Brady’s shock decision to un-retire from the NFL."

People added that the couple spent time apart this past weekend. Bündchen was spotted with son Benjamin and daughter Vivian at a Florida water park, while Brady traveled to New York to see his son Jack, whom he had with actress Bridget Moynahan before his marriage to Bündchen.

The Page Six piece said that there has been "trouble" in the marriage since Brady announced in March he was returning to the Buccaneers' active roster. "They had agreed he would retire to focus on the family, then he changed his mind," a source told that outlet.

Brady hasn't offered much insight into what caused him to step away from the Buccaneers for nearly two full weeks last month.

"It’s all personal," the 45-year-old said after the preseason finale against the Indianapolis Colts on Aug. 27. "Everyone’s got different situations they’re dealing with. We all have really unique challenges to our life. I’m 45 years old, man. There’s a lot of s--- going on."
