GM Ryan Poles: Bears are 'all-in' on QB Justin Fields

Ahead of last week's NFL Draft, Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus explained that the team's new offense is "going to be very quarterback-friendly" for 2021 rookie Justin Fields, and Fields later remarked that he was making changes to his footwork in an attempt to limit the number of sacks he'll take moving forward.

The Bears left some scratching their heads, though, when they used their first two draft picks to select cornerback Kyler Gordon and safety Jaquan Brisker instead of bolstering their offense via those assets. Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Chicago general manager Ryan Poles defended that decision earlier this week, and Poles assured everyone listening during a Friday appearance on ESPN 1000 that the team still views Fields as a long-term answer at the sport's most important position.

"We’re all-in on Justin," Poles said, according to Josh Alper of PFT. "I believe in Justin. Our coaches believe in Justin. Like I said from the beginning, we’re going to set him up to succeed."

Fields was inconsistent, at best, during his debut pro campaign. As noted by ESPN stats, the 23-year-old finished the regular season last among all eligible signal-callers with a 26.4 total QBR. Considering how the so-called quarterback carousel spun this offseason, it's not a stretch to say Fields could find himself playing for his job just two years into his Chicago tenure.
