As the Baltimore Ravens reckon with the potential loss of kicker Justin Tucker, they’ve expressed interest in the top kickers in the NFL Draft.
The Ravens are yet to release Tucker under the reasoning that they are waiting for adequate information and the conclusion of the league’s investigation. If the sexual misconduct allegations from 16 Baltimore-area massage therapists result in discipline from the league office, the kicker’s Ravens tenure will almost certainly be over. His career may very well follow.
For now, though, he remains rostered and unpunished by the NFL. The timetable for a potential decision isn’t yet clear.
On Tuesday, Commissioner Roger Goodell commented on Tucker’s investigation.
“Yeah, I haven’t gotten an update but I know the review is ongoing,” Goodell said while speaking to the media at the annual league owners meetings.
“We won’t be giving updates but when we have something, we’ll certainly share it with everyone.”
In the wake of Tucker’s controversy, fans have considered ways the NFL can attempt to curtail these incidents. Tucker's allegations represent the league’s biggest sexual misconduct scandal since Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson was accused by over two dozen women of sexual misconduct.
The quarterback was ultimately suspended for 11 games and fined $5 million.
One such step toward eradicating these incidents could be limiting athlete’s massage therapists to those within each team’s staff, potentially providing more oversight and accessible options for reporting such behavior.
Goodell suggested that he hasn’t yet considered that solution.
“I think some clubs do do that, and they do make that service available in the facilities frequently,” the commissioner said.
“But I don’t think there’s any thought that we would restrict people from seeking a massage outside the facility or the team. I have not heard that discussion. I think everyone’s aware of the seriousness of our policies in this area, and they have a full understanding of it and that we’re going to uphold that.”
Tucker has denied these allegations in a statement to OutKick.
“I maintain I did not act inappropriately at any point before, during, or after a professional bodywork treatment session, nor have I ever been told I am unwelcome at any massage therapy provider,” he wrote.
