Grant Calcaterra among Philadelphia Eagles' biggest 'winners and losers' following the 2025 NFL Draft

The Philadelphia Eagles emerged from the 2025 NFL Draft with 10 new rookies, and that total doesn't even factor in the wave of players they brought in through undrafted free agency.

The pressure is officially on for a handful of players in Philly, as roster spots and depth chart positions will be up for grabs throughout training camp. For some, the draft brought a sense of security and new opportunity. For others, it signaled an uphill battle to make the 53-man roster cut.

Below, we break down some of the biggest winners and losers from the Eagles' draft.

Winner: Guard Tyler Steen

The Eagles entered the draft with a question mark at right guard with Mekhi Becton gone, but they didn't select his replacement.

Sure, they added center/guard Drew Kendall in the later round, though he doesn't scream "immediate starter." That just means the starting right guard job is Tyler Steen's to lose, again this summer.

Loser: Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson

The Eagles traded backup quarterback Kenny Pickett to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2025 fifth-round pick last month.

They then drafted Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord in the sixth round of the draft. That's bad news for Dorian Thompson-Robinson. And pending how well things go for the rookie at camp, one could even argue that Tanner McKee's QB2 job could be in jeopardy.

Winner: Tight End Grant Calcaterra

The Eagles opted not to draft a tight end, contrary to many projections. This decision suggests that Dallas Goedert is likely staying put for the final year of his current contract. It also shows the team's strong confidence in Grant Calcaterra’s ability to step up should Goedert miss time during the season.

Additionally, if the Eagles decide to trade Goedert, Calcaterra is positioned to take over as the starting tight end.

Loser: Cornerback Kelee Ringo

The Eagles took a hit in NFL free agency when they lost both Darius Slay and Isaiah Rodgers to other teams.

They addressed the situation by adding versatile UCF cornerback Mac McWilliams in Round 5. McWilliams has experience playing nickel and outside. It's too early to know how the Eagles will use him, but the pressure will be on for third-year cornerback Kelee Ringo.
