Grant Delpit: We're The Best Defense In The League
© Scott Galvin-USA TODAY Sports

The Cleveland Browns head into Week 10 boasting the top-ranked defense in terms of yards per game, passing yards per game, third-down defense, and expected points added per play, among other metrics.

Their counterparts this weekend, the Baltimore Ravens aren't too far behind. Baltimore's defensive unit enters the weekend ranked first in points allowed, sacks and red zone defense. They're just one spot behind the Browns in yards allowed per game, passing yards per game and expected points added per play.

Depending on the numbers someone uses, there's a case to be made for either unit being top in the NFL right now. Browns safety, Grant Delpit will take his chances with the guys he suits up with every week.

"I'm not familiar with all the statistics of it all," Delpit said Thursday. "I know what we got in this building and I believe we're the best defense in the league, so we gotta go out there and show it at the end of the day. We can't just say it and not back it up."

Delpit's comments are the latest in the war of words that's played out from defensive players from both of the AFC North rivals. On Wednesday, Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen suggested that he and his teammates are extra motivated to prove they're the better defense of the two.

“It’s a lot of motivation" Queen said. “It’s a lot of talk right now, and we just want to talk with our pads, honestly. We just want to go out there and dominate one play at a time, have fun with it, talk a little trash on the field and go at it again.”

In three more days, the opposing units will both have a chance to put their pads where their mouth is. Fresh off a 27-0 drubbing of the Arizona Cardinals, the Browns come into this matchup with a newfound confidence from a get-right game of sorts.

The Ravens, conversely, are riding a four-game win streak and at 7-2, sit atop the division and AFC standings. Add in the fact that dual-treat quarterback, Lamar Jackson is starting to find a groove in the Ravens' new offense.

It's fair to call this one the Browns' biggest challenge to date.

"We all in this building know what we got," said Delpit. "Of course they won last game. We gotta chance to go in their place and do the same thing they did to us. And we might meet them again in the long run."

The stakes are high. A Browns win would give credence to Delpit's claims that the NFL's best defense resides in Cleveland. More importantly, though, it would go a long in keeping any division title hopes alive.
